Meet M.E.!

Hi! My name is MaryEllen Myers

I help women who are struggling with weight loss and blood sugar issues learn how to use diet and other lifestyle factors to lower weight and blood sugar and properly nourish their bodies so they can flourish in life and feel good and confident in their body!

I haven't always felt good in this body of mine. After having my children, my weight was up 40 pounds (and no, not right after they were born, but years after!). I had lots of aches and pains and felt tired, even after what I thought was a good night's sleep. I had symptoms of low blood sugar (hangry anyone?!).  And, yes, I tried counting calories and points, and that worked for a while - until I stopped - when the weight would creep back.

While I thought I was eating a healthy diet, it wasn't until I really changed that diet, that I really started to feel GOOD! I removed processed foods and other foods that my body did not like (I'm looking at you - gluten & dairy!) and focused on eating whole, nutritious foods. And when I did that, I actually felt GOOD  - energized and well! Without the aches, pains or fatigue.

This is what I want for you!

More about me:

  • Nutrition is my second career. My bachelor's degree is in mechanical engineering and I spent 20+ years as a systems engineer. I have always loved learning how things work and the human body is amazing in that regard!
  • I love dogs! (See the pictures below) They are my excuse to get outside and walking everyday!
  • I am not a perfect eater and I don't expect you to be either! (That's not sustainable in the long run.)
  • I don't like to wear shoes. At home you'll find me barefoot most of the time!
  • I am definitely an introvert! While you won't often see me working with large groups, I LOVE working with small groups or one-on-one with people!

My nutrition approach:

  • I don't believe in short term diets, but will work with you to implement a way of eating that can be maintained (and enjoyed) for a lifetime!
  • I don't believe in counting calories, but we may track protein, carbs and fat for a while to determine your body's specific needs.
  • While supplements can be helpful, I believe in a "food first" approach.
  • There are other lifestyle factors that affect our weight in addition to diet such as sleep, stress and exercise. We will discuss all of these as we work together.
  • Continuous glucose monitors can be very helpful tools to determine how your body reacts to specific foods and to help lower blood sugar levels. I love the insight they give and will recommend them from time to time.

My education:

  • Bachelor's of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Rochester
  • Master's of Science in Nutrition and Integrative Health with a concentration in Human Clinical Nutrition from the Maryland University of Integrative Health
  • Functional Nutritional Therapy Practitioner from the Nutritional Therapy Association
